I imagine it’ll mostly be shoegaze and indie-pop. I’m thinking of having a Shoegaze Sunday category. We’ll see. It’s a work in progress.

Only got half-way through before I gave up. They dispense with Freud very early on, but then seemingly rehash his theories. Apparently everything I do is a reflection on how well my mother parented me as an infant and toddler. And I am destined to only be attracted to people like my mother, unless I have years of talk therapy. And anyone who wasn’t perfectly raised, well, they should probably just be shot. It’d be kinder.

Also, the writing was terrible. If they wanted to talk about chaos theory, they introduced a water drop splashing around. But it’s not just any water drop. No, this one is from that fountain in the center of Rome, Trevi. And when they want to talk about how we can sympathize with someone else’s emotions, why look, it’s Archimedes and he just discovered buoyancy! Haha, now that, I can relate to.

Maybe I should read the rest of it, but there was only one thing I didn’t learn from introspection. I didn’t know that there is a physical seperation between the neocortex, limbic, and reptilian brains. I thought those were just metaphors. Neat! Also, doesn’t the idea of the self being composed of three parts echo Freud again?

Best thing about the book is the great cover design.

And working mothers should feel really guilty. Shame on them.

I just heard this song on a Music That Matters podcast and it’s great. I had heard a couple Bishop Allen songs before, but nothing as super as this song. Didn’t know they were local to Brooklyn either. Maybe I can catch a show by them.

It comes to about $2000+ for two years. Which is true, and should be considered if you’ve never had a cell phone before.

They should be subtracting the current fees they’re already paying. I pay about $60 a month, which coincides with the $60 a month AT&T plan that’s being offered. So really, my main consideration is whether I can afford the iPhone itself. The monthly fees will stay the same.

I had a great time last night at show 1 of NYC Popfest. Lots of great people and I took

4 year old boy. There was this little kid with a sword dancing around and climbing up on the stage between sets. Everyone was fascinated with him.

The Metric Mile. The girl in the middle played “distortion.” All shoegazey, but with a beat so you could dance to it. They didn’t have an album out yet, so I couldn’t buy it.

Yellow Fever. A band from Auston, TX. They had some neat harmonizing.

Pants Yell!

self protraits. Just me fooling around with the shadows.

BMX Bandits. This band was terrific. They did a beautiful cover of Bonnie ‘Prince’ William’s After I Made Love to You. It was so late though, I couldn’t stay for their whole set. I ended up leaving around 2:00am.

The rest of my photos of the night are here.

Everyone at the show was great. It’s such a friendly scene. I don’t remember the last time so many people came up to me and introduced themselves. The glam scene can shove it. This is where it’s at. I can’t wait for the show tonight, the show Saturday night, the dance party on Sunday, and the BBQ/show on Monday.
