I love it when a plan comes together
With some help from Daniel Jalkut, Dave Dribin, Chris Hanson, and of course Andy Matuschak’s Sparkle and Reinvented Software’s Feeder, I finally have a system for pushing Gusto updates that are tied to SVN revision numbers. Once it works, it works pretty good. I might run into some trouble in the future if I were to use a different tree than trunk, but that’ll be a good ways away.
I’m not too worried either because:
a) agvtool will let me set whatever version and marketingversion I want
b) Sparkle will let me explicitly name the next version
Okkervil River
Super song about imagining what it’d be like if the American president was assassinated. This is not a political song. It’s about the spectacle and watching such an event from the sidelines. About huge national catastrophes that affect everyone and define generations.
razor love
My sister Anja was given a trial Gillette Fusion to test. She passed it on to me and I made the required jokes about how it was overkill and what this world is coming to.
Well, I tried it out this morning, and it was terrific. I can’t quite explain what was so great about it, but it just zipped over my face, with no catching or cutting.
The extra razor on the other size for trimming worked great too.
So I’m switching from my usual Mach 3 to the Fusion in the future, assuming I can find the razor blades. The Mach 3 blades are often hard to find, and quite pricey.
street musician
I’ve been hearing this great street musician for a while now, but I didn’t decide to buy his album until I heard this song which just made my commute home really wonderful. It sounded like some soundtrack’s interlude.
The next time I saw him, I didn’t have enough money. But yesterday, I had just taken some money out and I had a feeling he’d be in the station again. And there he was! Only $5 dollars.
He plays this electric classical guitar, where it’s just an outline of a guitar body and some strings.
Matthew Nichols, playing his own compositions. The CD has 16 other songs that are classical guitar pieces. it’s really very pretty.
I especially like It Is Not There, but my favorite isn’t on his website. It’s only 1:42 long, but I listened to it repeatedly all day today. I think I’m going to use it as a soundtrack for a very short artsy movie.
Who is awesome? I am
I just got Ardour working on MacOS X without X11. It’s not stable, but it’s pretty sweet. Also fun: submitting patches to important projects like Gtk+ and having people say “thanks!”
Tony DeSare
I’m not usually into Sinatra style lounge music, but this new guy who’s doing that stuff, Tony DeSare does an excellent cover of Prince’s Kiss that you should check out.
Things Are Looking Up
Just another mix of stuff I’ve been listening too. It’s pretty cheerful. I call it Things Are Looking Up
- Loney, Dear – I Am John
- Islands – Rough Gem
- Beachhouse – Master of None
- STAR – Liars in Love
- The Clientele – We Could Walk Together
- Architecture in Helsinki – Kindling
- The Blow – The Moon Is There, I Am Here
- The Flaming Lips – Turn It On
- Panda Bear – Comfy In Nautica
- Casiotone for the Painfully Alone – Lonesome New Mexico Nights
I even made cover art for it:

Casiotone for the Painfully Alone

This song (Bobby Malone Moves Home) by Casiotone for the Painfully Alone is beautiful. It reminds me of my first year after graduating college.
The Islands

Neat song from The Islands. Sounds like a mixture between The Unicorns and Billy Joel Ash.
Funny. After doing some research, the band has two members of The Unicorns.
sting like a bee
I won’t go into boring detail, but the Nintendo Wii is awesome. I love the boxing game. I’m throwing jabs, lefts and rights, dodging back and forth. It’s so good when you get a pattern going and keep punching the guy in the face and then fake him out and get him in the stomach. Boo-yah.
If anyone else has one, my friend number is 0765 2583 9520 9510. Post yours here and I’ll add you. I think my Mii is rather remarkably similar.
